An applicant must meet the following requirements to apply for an apprenticeship with the MEJATC.
Applicant must be 18 years old at time of interview.
Applicant must show proof of one credit in algebra with passing grade or completion of the NJATC Tech Math Course, or successfully complete the Mathematics Refresher Course offered by Electric Prep.
Applicant must be a high school graduate or have a GED.
Applicant must possess a valid driver’s license and be an insurable driver.

Please note, there is a nonrefundable $55 fee required upon request of the online application. If you prefer a paper application the nonrefundable $55.00 must be mailed back to the JATC with all the required documentation.
Applications require:
Copy of birth certificate
Copy of social security card
Copy of valid driver’s license
Official copy of high school transcripts showing proof of 1 algebra credit
Transcripts from college if applicable
Work history
GED completion if applicable
Copy of DD214 if applicable
Undisputable documentation of previous electrical experience if relevant. (examples include transmittal from the State, pay stubs from employer, records from a JATC)
Once a completed application with all supporting documents has been submitted, qualified applicants will be notified of the aptitude test date, time, and location.
The aptitude test is approximately 3 hours long and covers algebra 1 and reading comprehension.
Please bring a valid driver’s license with you to the test for identification purposes. No calculators of any kind will be permitted during the test.
Applicants who have successfully passed the aptitude test with a qualifying score will be notified of their interview date, time, and location. Interviews are conducted in Helena by a committee representing both NECA and the IBEW. Topics discussed in the interview may include:
Education
Ability and or skills
Work experience and interest
Reliability and cooperation
Attitude and judgement
Once the interview is complete, applicants will be scored by the committee. Applicants are then placed on the list of their choice according to their final score. As new positions become available in the program, names will be taken off the list in the order they appear.
Applicants will remain on the list for up to 2 years. At the end of that period, an applicant may reapply if desired. A reinterview may be requested after 90 days and 450 hours of electrical construction experience or proof of completion of 2 post-secondary classes related to the electrical industry.

Paper applications are mailed out once per week. When you request a paper applicaiton please note it will go out in the mail at the end of each week. The $55.00 application fee is due when you return your completed application with all the required documents.
